Driving an RV around Madrid

• Madrid has a city-wide Low Emission Zone (Madrid ZBE) that applies permanently to all urban public roads in the municipality. From 1 January 2025 it prohibits access and circulation for vehicles classified as “A” in the DGT Vehicle Register.
• Two stricter areas, ZBEDEP Distrito Centro and ZBEDEP Plaza Elíptica, have additional rules: in Distrito Centro, “A” vehicles are prohibited and “B”/“C” vehicles cannot enter just to traverse the zone but may enter to park in an authorized public/private parking lot or reserved parking inside; in Plaza Elíptica, vehicles without environmental classification (no sticker) are prohibited inside the perimeter (including the A-42 segment) except in defined exceptional cases.
• Toll routes R-2, R-3, R-4 and R-5 run parallel to the free A-roads. On the R-3, a light vehicle pays about €3.05 (telepeaje) or €3.40 (cash/card) for the full M-40 → A-3 connection trip during 06:00–24:00 (free 00:00–06:00; 2026 rates).
• Traffic is typically heaviest from 07:30-10:00 and 18:00-20:30. park-and-ride locations such as Pitis, Fuente de la Mora and Aviación Española connect to Metro/Cercanías lines.
• Overnight street parking is only allowed where parking is permitted; avoid “camping” actions (awning, steps, levelling blocks, etc.) and follow local signage and municipal rules.
• Service areas on the A-2 and A-6 highways offer fuel and facilities; water taps and 24-hour security vary by operator, so confirm on-site.
