Driving an RV around Tenerife

• Ferry connections from Cádiz and Huelva carry RVs to Santa Cruz. Keep ID/passports and booking documents ready in the vehicle lane.
• Tenerife roads are toll-free. Highway TF-1 runs along the south and east coasts while TF-5 serves the north and often has traffic delays near La Laguna during busy hours.
• Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna are working on Low Emission Zones (ZBE) and are not fully implemented yet (status: "en proceso de aprobación" / "en trámite"). Check the latest local rules before entering urban centres.
• Mountain roads to Teide via TF-21 and TF-24 climb into Teide National Park. These are main access roads, and winter weather can cause closures—drive carefully on steep sections and hairpins.
• Overnight camping is allowed only in authorized camping zones called "zonas de acampada". To ensure you are simply parking, avoid deploying items outside the vehicle perimeter (awnings, tables, levelling supports, etc.).
• Free permits for Cabildo-managed camping zones (e.g., Chío) are required: stays are limited to 7 consecutive days and reservations are managed via Tenerife ON, with places released weekly (Monday 07:00, Canary time).
• Gas stations are frequent along TF-1 and other main roads, but "RV service" facilities (fresh water / waste) vary—plan stops using authorized campgrounds or service points.
