Driving a Campervan around Tenerife

  • Ferry connections from Cádiz and Huelva carry campervans to Santa Cruz. Keep passports and booking documents ready in the vehicle lane
  • Tenerife roads are toll-free. Highway TF-1 runs along the south and east coasts while TF-5 serves the north and often has traffic delays near La Laguna during busy hours
  • Santa Cruz and La Laguna are introducing Low Emission Zones. Vehicles with foreign license plates will need online registration before entering these zones
  • Mountain roads to Teide via TF-21 and TF-24 climb to more than 2,300 meters altitude. Sharp turns posted at 2.2 meter width require slow, careful driving
  • Overnight camping is allowed only in authorized camping zones called "zonas de acampada". Parking without awnings or tables is usually accepted elsewhere, but fines for illegal camping are expensive
  • Free permits for government-managed areas such as Chío and Punta del Hidalgo can be requested up to one month in advance through the Cabildo website
  • Twenty-four-hour fuel stations on TF-1 near Arico and Adeje offer long parking spaces, fresh-water taps and basic waste disposal points
