Driving a Campervan around Vienna

  • Motorway traffic entering on the A2 or A4 needs a digital vignette if the camper is under 3.5 tonnes. Buy one online or at the border.
  • Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes must carry a GO-Box that charges for distance driven.
  • The entire city has short-stay parking zones on weekdays. Use a prepaid ticket or the Handyparken app and stay within the two-hour limit.
  • Overnight parking on public streets is not allowed. Choose an official campground or Stellplatz.
  • Park-and-ride locations such as Erdberg and Hütteldorf accept vehicles up to about 2.7 metres high and connect to the U-Bahn metro in ten minutes.
  • Electronic signs on approach motorways can reduce the speed limit to 100 km/h during pollution alerts.
  • Petrol stations inside the city centre have tight entrances. Fill up on the A23 ring road before driving downtown.
  • LPG fuel pumps are located on the S1 outer ring but are rare near the historic centre, so refuel in the suburbs.
