Driving a Campervan around Geneva

  • A CHF 40 vignette (highway toll sticker) is required for the A1 and all other Swiss motorways. It covers vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes for fourteen months.
  • Stick'Air pollution alerts can activate at short notice. Only vehicles displaying the correct coloured sticker may enter the city between 06:00 and 22:00 on restricted days.
  • Heavy motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes pay a lump-sum LSVA fee when crossing the border and again when moving between cantons (Swiss regions).
  • Traffic builds on the A1 highway and the Pont du Mont-Blanc bridge from 07:30 to 09:00. Park-and-ride locations such as Bernex or Genève-Plage include a day transit ticket and avoid downtown parking difficulties.
  • The Route de Thonon lakeside road east of Vésenaz narrows to 2.3 metres in places. Drive slowly and give way at passing areas.
  • Great St Bernard and Lötschberg tunnels charge separate tolls that are collected at the tunnel entrances.
  • Wild camping is banned in nature reserves and forests. Overnight parking is usually permitted if you stay inside marked parking spaces with awnings stored away.
