Driving a Campervan around Athens

  • Attiki Odos ring road toll depends on vehicle category. A taller two-axle motorhome (total height >2.70 m) is currently €7.10 per toll passage. Pay at the toll booth (cash/card) or use an electronic pass.

  • The Daktylios traffic restriction zone is seasonal and operates on weekdays. For the current season it runs from 20 October 2025 to 24 July 2026. Vehicles with odd and even number plates take turns entering the zone on different days, with exemptions via special permit/sign for eligible vehicles.

  • Greece restricts 'free camping' in camper vehicles (overnight stays / setting up outside organised sites) on beaches and at archaeological sites, and rules can be tightened by local authorities. Use organised campsites or authorised motorhome parking areas.
  • City centre on-street parking is controlled: visitor spaces are marked in white (residents-only spaces are blue). Payment is via scratch cards or the MyAthensPass mobile app. Maximum parking time for visitors is three hours.

  • To avoid central Athens traffic, park outside the busiest areas and continue by metro, tram or bus.

  • Ferry deck space for motorhomes fills quickly in summer. Book ferry trips to the Cyclades islands or Crete well in advance.
  • LPG fuel stations are common on Attiki Odos motorway and National Road 1 but rare on the islands. Fill your LPG tank before boarding any ferry.

Camper stop in Greece is generally used to mean a designated motorhome stopover area (often marketed as an 'aire' or 'stellplatz') intended for short stays; facilities vary by location and may range from simple overnight parking to sites with fresh water, waste disposal and sometimes electricity, typically free or for a low fee.
