ASA stands for Área de Serviço para Autocaravanas. This is Portugal's basic motorhome stop, usually costing 5 to 12 euros per night, and offers hardstanding, water and a dump point.
Wild/free camping in Portugal is not generally permitted, and enforcement can be strict in certain areas. If you’re caught breaking the rules, you may receive an on-the-spot fine.
