Driving a Campervan around Mallorca

  • Ferries from Barcelona, Valencia and Dénia carry campervans to Palma. Vehicle passengers and foot passengers board separately, so have your passport and booking confirmation ready at the vehicle lane
  • Mallorca has no toll roads. The Ma-11 Sóller tunnel has been free since 2017 and accepts vehicles up to about 4.5 metres high
  • Palma introduced a Low Emission Zone on 1 January 2025. Foreign licence plates must register online and can enter during a one-year grace period while cameras issue warning letters only
  • Mountain routes through the Serra de Tramuntana, especially the Ma-10, are narrow with sharp turns and have signed width limits of 2 metres in several villages
  • Fuel stations are easy to find on main roads like the Ma-13 but are rare on the northwest coast after Sóller, so fill up your tank before driving into the mountains
  • Overnight camping outside official areas can bring fines up to €1,500 around Palma. Keep awnings and chairs packed away if you are simply parking
  • Beach car parks fill by 10:00 AM in July and August. Satellite parking at Can Picafort runs a shuttle bus to Playa de Muro every 15 minutes

In addition, there are plenty of campsites, starting at around €9 per night.

Do I need a special licence to drive a camper in Spain?

All drivers must have a current and full driver’s licence to hire a vehicle. For foreign licences, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is also required.
