Driving a Campervan around Dubrovnik

  • The A1 motorway ends at Ploče about 100 km northwest. The scenic D8 coastal road connects Ploče to Dubrovnik.
  • A class II motorhome pays about €32 in tolls from Zagreb to Ploče when using an ENC tag or paper ticket.
  • Wild camping is illegal in Croatia. Fines can exceed €400, so stay only at registered campsites.
  • Campervans cannot enter the streets inside the mediaeval walls. Use campsite shuttle buses or the park-and-ride system beside Port Gruž.
  • Day parking at Port Gruž has wide parking spaces for larger vehicles. You can pay at the machine or through the Dubrovnik parking app.
  • Summer ferries to Lopud, Šipan and Mljet depart from Port Gruž. Book motorhome spaces well in advance.
  • LPG fuel is easy to find on the mainland but difficult to find on the islands. Plan to refuel before taking a ferry.
