Driving a Campervan around Belgium

• Motorways (autosnelwegen) are generally toll-free for cars and most campervans. The Liefkenshoek Tunnel near Antwerp is tolled, costing around €4.40 to €25.00 depending on the vehicle category (height) and how you pay (e.g., Teletol/OBU vs card vs cash).

• Low-emission zones operate in Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent. Rules vary by city, so check your vehicle’s Euro standard on the official LEZ sites before entering. Brussels tightened its rules from 1 Jan 2026, and Antwerp/Ghent may allow entry with a paid day pass if your vehicle doesn’t meet the standard.

• Street parking rules vary by municipality. Follow the posted zone/time limits and pay at the meter or via common mobile options such as the 4411 app where available.

• Wild camping/overnighting is generally only allowed at registered campsites or in designated motorhome areas (camperplaatsen/aires), or where signs explicitly permit it.

• LPG fuel, marked as LPG/GPL, is available but can be less common in rural areas—plan refueling ahead if heading into remote regions.

• Speed cameras are frequent. Follow posted limits; as a guide it’s often 120 km/h on motorways, with lower limits on other roads and in towns (Brussels is widely 30 km/h unless signed otherwise).

• You must carry a warning triangle and reflective jacket (and keep the jacket within reach). Additional mandatory equipment includes a first-aid kit and fire extinguisher. Police can issue an on-the-spot fine if required safety items are missing.
