Driving a Campervan around Split

  • The A1 motorway ends at the Dugopolje exit. A class II campervan pays approximately €27 in tolls when driving from Zagreb to this point.
  • The Old Town area around Diocletian's Palace does not allow motor vehicles. Use the large parking lot beside Poljud Stadium for day parking instead.
  • Overnight parking on streets inside the city limits is not allowed. Choose an official campsite or motorhome stop.
  • Port traffic is heavy in summer. Arrive at least one hour before ferry departures to Brač, Hvar or Vis.
  • LPG (Autoplin) fuel stations are available along the D8 coastal highway but are rare on the nearby islands. Plan to refuel before taking a ferry.
  • Maximum stay in most public car parks is twenty-four hours. Pay at the machine or via the Split Parking mobile app.
  • The A1 rest areas offer water taps and shaded parking which provide useful breaks on the inland route to the coast.
