Venice is located on the A4 freeway between Milan and Trieste. The A57 beltway circles Mestre and provides quick access to the Alps or Adriatic beaches.
The historic lagoon city does not allow cars. You must park your RV on the mainland or at Tronchetto island, then take a vaporetto water-bus into the city center.
Mestre streets use ZTL limited traffic cameras. These cameras automatically fine any vehicle without a permit. Watch for signs and avoid restricted areas.
Freeway tolls work with a ticket system. Take a ticket when you enter and pay when you exit. RVs under 3.5 metric tons (approx. 7,700 lbs) that are over 1.3 meters (approx. 4 ft 3 in) high at the front axle are Class B vehicles and pay higher rates than cars.
Boondocking is generally prohibited and rules vary by municipality; fines can be high. You should use official campgrounds or Aree di Sosta areas designed for RVs.
A guarded Park and Ride facility beside Mestre train station offers long-stay parking spaces. A fifteen-minute train or bus ride connects to Venice from there.
