Porto connects to Lisbon via the A1 highway and to Spain's Galician coast on the A28 highway.
A restricted-access zone (ZAAC) in the historic center blocks older vehicles (pre-Euro 4 engines) on weekdays.
Most campervans are classified as toll Class 2 when the front-axle height is over 1.10 meters. Pay with Via Verde electronic system or at card payment lanes.
Outside protected areas you may stay up to 48 hours per municipality in a self-contained motorhome. Longer stays or overnight parking in protected nature areas (Natura 2000 zones) may result in fines.

ASA (Área de Serviço para Autocaravanas) is Portugal's basic motorhome service area. These locations provide hardstanding parking, fresh water and waste disposal for approximately €5 – 12 per night.
Portugal strictly prohibits wild/free camping even on privately owned land. Fines will often be given on the spot if you are caught breaking these rules.
Portugal has over 100 campsites and these start from $6 (USD) per night.
All drivers must have a current and full driver’s license to rent a vehicle. Drivers are allowed to drive up to 6 months in Portugal without an International Driving Permit (IDP).
In addition, some RV rental suppliers require the driver to have held their license for a certain period of time (1-3 years).
