Highway tolls place most campervans in Class 2 when the first-axle height is more than 1.10 meters. Pay with Via Verde electronic system or at card and cash lanes.
Overnight parking is limited to forty-eight hours outside protected areas. Use official ASA stops or campsites to avoid fines.

ASA (Área de Serviço para Autocaravanas) is the Portuguese name for a basic motorhome service area. These areas provide parking space, water supply and waste disposal facilities at approximately €5 – 12 per night.
Wild/free camping in Portugal is not generally permitted, and enforcement can be strict in certain areas. If you are caught breaking the rules, you may receive an on-the-spot fine.
Portugal has many campsites across the country, with prices varying widely by region and season.
All drivers must have a current and full driver’s license to rent a vehicle. Drivers are allowed to drive up to 6 months in Portugal without an International Driving Permit (IDP).
In addition, some RV rental suppliers require the driver to have held their license for a certain period of time (1-3 years).
