ASA stands for Área de Serviço para Autocaravanas. This is Portugal's basic motorhome stop, usually costing 5 to 12 euros per night, and offers hardstanding, water and a dump point.
Portugal strictly prohibits wild/free camping even on privately owned land. Fines will often be given on the spot if you are caught breaking these rules.
Portugal has over 100 campsites and these start from $6 (USD) per night.
All drivers must have a current and full driver’s license to rent a vehicle. Drivers are allowed to drive up to 6 months in Portugal without an International Driving Permit (IDP).
In addition, some RV rental suppliers require the driver to have held their license for a certain period of time (1-3 years).
Note: policies vary from supplier to supplier. Always check the T&Cs for your rental.
